Vitalia Senior Residences at Stow Recognizes National Assisted Living Week

Category: Wellness

Author: Karra Charles, Executive Director

Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week® recognizes the role of assisted living in America while providing a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to celebrate the individuals they serve while simultaneously educating members of the public about what assisted living truly looks like.

This year, VITALIA Senior Residences® at Stow is celebrating the 2022 theme of “joyful moments” from September 11th to September 17th by recognizing how each department plays a role in creating joy for our residents and staff members.

Being a leader of a senior living community means inspiring confidence in other people and moving them to action, working together as a team.

Our team creates joyful moments on a regular basis in our community. We believe in the power of a chuckle. Our building does team activities through resident services. We play games and help residents daily while getting our tasks completed. We try to make every interaction special. Example, if there is a song on, we will sing along with them or jump in and dance. A smile and being joyful goes a long way.

Resident Judy Flick says making new friends, living in a social atmosphere, and enjoying crafts with others is what brings her the most joy living at VITALIA Senior Residences® at Stow. Her favorite memory, so far, “When I was chosen for “Meet the Author” when we wrote parts of the The Old and The Beautiful book.”

We plan to make National Assisted Living Week special in our community. Sunday is the launch with Grandparents Brunch, and we will be joining all three neighborhoods together as one community. Monday we will celebrate “Memory Care” with Blizzards & music. On Tuesday we will party with “Plant Operations” by playing outside games with prizes and a watermelon eating contest with staff vs residents. On Wednesday, we are having a wellness fair while enjoying walking tacos. On Thursday, we are doing our Alzheimer’s fundraiser with a dunking booth, buffet of snacks, and the fire department playing games with us. Friday is being celebrated with Resident Services’ signature drink and decorations galore. Goodie bags celebrating “joy” will be distributed as well.

Follow us on Facebook to witness all our joyful moments, but especially from September 11th to September 17th as each department celebrates National Assisted Living Week and the many ways each team brings joy to our community staff and residents!
