Building Safety Month takes place in May every year and is internationally recognized for raising awareness in keeping buildings safe.
This initiative unites industries, associations, academia, and government under a common goal to protect the public by creating a safe and resilient environment. Our primary focus as the Plant Operations Team at VITALIA Senior Residences® at Stow Stow, OH is keeping our residents, visitors, and staff safe.
There are many tasks to be performed to safeguard our community. I make daily walks of the entire building. I know the residents and their routines. Not seeing a resident when you normally would may mean there is a problem. I always pay attention to fire doors and exits to ensure neither are blocked. Fire drills are held monthly for both residents and staff.
As Plant Operations Director I play a dual role with responsibility of building maintenance and the safety of our residents and staff. Residents come to our community with an expectation of safety. It’s every employee’s responsibility to help maintain a safe working and living environment.

I practice building safety at home too. I make sure that I have working fire extinguishers accessible in all parts of my house. I also maintain back up safety equipment for power outages or natural disasters.
VITALIA® Stow serves and employs individuals of all faiths, regardless of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age or handicap, except as limited by state and federal law.
