Each year, National Assisted Living Week provides a special opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate the world of assisted living communities across our nation. The week is meant to spotlight the amazing efforts of caregivers working in these communities as well as the unique residents who reside in them. As we join in this national observance, it is a chance to reflect on the importance of compassionate care, to celebrate the vibrant lives of residents, and appreciate the incredible staff who make it all possible. This week also highlights the importance of assisted living communities being a part of neighborhoods across the nation.
Assisted living communities make a positive impact on the neighborhoods they belong to. I believe that when we feel positive and do positive things, it greatly influences the success of any event. It’s essential to ask residents about their preferences and incorporate their interests into the event. A key focus is showing them that we are an extended family where they feel safe, happy, and secure. This sense of belonging is what truly welcomes the public into our community.
As National Assisted Living Week has officially kicked off, we are fully embracing this year’s theme, “Inspiring Generations.” This theme captures the nature of what makes Vitalia Stow so special: the blend of wisdom from our older adults and the fresh vibrancy of the professionals who work here each day. To celebrate, residents and staff will enjoy a week full of unique events that highlight the various service areas that contribute to the spirit and success of our community.
What I look forward to most about celebrating National Assisted Living Week each year is the excitement that both residents and staff share during each special event. It’s so important to involve all departments, and last year’s fun theme showed just how much everyone contributed. Every department put 100% effort into making it a success, and the residents absolutely loved it.
It is our hope that by truly embracing the journey our aging adults take when they choose to make an assisted living community their home, we can inspire others to make the leap, join the wonderful culture, and truly thrive alongside others in their generation.
